June 17, 2009: Getting things going
We had arrived safely in Kigali on Saturday afternoon. Our colleagues were kind enough, as always, to meet us at the airport, and we used the rest of the day to settle in.
While waiting for everyone to get here, we started getting some necessary work and routine errands done. Then, with the complete arrival of our team, we were able to really begin scheduling our next two weeks. There is quite a list to be accomplished, and, of course, new opportunities (and scheduling conflicts) arise each day.
So far, we have had two meetings with the Clinton Foundation – one with a fellow from from the Clinton/Hunter Development Initiative and one with the Rwanda country director for the HIV/AIDS program.
Tomorrow, we travel to two schools – one school to which we donated books last year, and one school that we might work with for the book program in the future.
On Friday, we travel out to the Shyara School to see how the school is faring, check on the solar installation and books from last year’s trip, and to install a few more lights for the classrooms.
More after that.
