Beacon Program Business Training in Full Swing

What a great way to celebrate International Women’s Day – empowering women through business education. We have now finished two of the four days of intensive business training for the Beacon Program women. Nicole’s lesson plan is this:

Friday/Monday: Bookkeeping, accounting, inventory
Tuesday: Marketing and advertising
Wednesday: Business plan and wrap up
Monday: Spend the day at the store with the women to reinforce concepts

It’s a lot to put into four days, but it’s only the beginning for the Beacon women. The sessions have been highly interactive with lots of questions and laughter. The women are a lot more participatory than I ever was in school. I look forward to seeing them in action at the store.

On Wednesday, upon completion of training, we will award the grant of K-Lights for the 10 new women from the Gasabo district.

These new women were chosen by our programs manager and the executive committee of the cooperative. Each women had to write a letter to apply for entrance into the cooperative.

We’re happy to welcome them to the program.
