K-Light

NGOs

Approximately 1.6 billion people worldwide do not have access to electricity. Yet, access to electricity is essential to development: it enables businesses to stay open longer, household tasks to be performed more efficiently, health care facilities to provide services, and children to study after dark.

Fuel-based lighting is inefficient and requires the expense of continual replenishing. It can be dangerous to operate, with the potential for burns and fuel spills; it contributes to indoor air pollution; and it emits millions of tons of greenhouse gases annually. Battery-powered devices generally require replacement batteries to continue functionality, resulting in additional monetary costs and environmental impacts.

The K-Light was developed by the company PiSAT as an alternative to the hazards of fuel-based lighting used in developing countries. The Koinonia Foundation uses the K-Light as the basis for theĀ Beacon Program.

Join the Koinonia Foundation in our goal to replace kerosene lighting in the developing world.

Nonprofit organizations that wish to use the K-Light for their own projects can purchase K-Lights at a discounted price. We hope that once you purchase the K-Light, you will “take it, use it, leave it” on your next project trip, thereby bringing clean, renewable energy to someone who could really use it.
